Abstract:
Continuum mechanics approaches within the framework of the Finite Element method are presented for the prediction of the nonlinear behavior of laminated composites and highly porous materials. For the carbon fiber reinforced laminates a nonlinear anisotropic constitutive material law is developed which includes plasticity, damage, and softening. Application to various laminated structures is presented and the computational predictions are compared to experimental results. For the porous materials their linear viscoelastic behavior is treated both in the time and the frequency domain. Initial studies on the prediction of the fracture behavior of
porous materials are carried out.
