Date:

Thursday, 3 May, 2018 - 14:30 to Tuesday, 8 May, 2018 - 16:30

Speaker: Prof. Paolo Podio-Guidugli, Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei/University of Rome Tor Vergata

Schedule: Thursday 3/05 room A-005, Friday 4/05 room A-133, Monday 7/05 room A-133, Tuesday 8/05 room A-134 - 14:30-16:30 - SISSA Campus, Via Bonomea 265, Trieste

Description: Prof. Podio-Guidugli will deliver four lectures on Continuum Thermodynamics, focussing on:

  • Basic notions of Continuum Mechanics;
  • Heat conduction (energy balance and entropy imbalance - the Clausius-Duhem inequality - internal dissipation, Helmholtz free energy, reduced dissipation inequality - constitutive restrictions - the heat equation);
  • Thermomechanics (energy balance, entropy imbalance, and reduced dissipation inequality - referential versions of the governing laws - the constitutive equations of thermoelasticity - the constitutive equations of thermoviscoelasticity - internal dissipation in purely mechanical circumstances);
  • The Principle of Virtual Powers;
  • A virtual power format for thermomechanics.
