Abstract. The talk introduces the spectral element method as a method to solve partial differential equations numerically. Several technical aspects are discussed, like boundary-interior decomposition and collapsed coordinate systems, which enable an efficient implementation. The application is shown on a bifurcation model, governed by the Navier-Stokes equations.
