Abstract: The seminar deals with the numerical simulation of the aortic valve complex. It will start presenting applications coming from real clinical needs, tackled using structural finite element analyses. The entire process will be covered from the processing of medical images for the construction of the finite element models to the analysis and post-processing. Then, simulation results of the aortic valve behavior obtained with a more efficient and relatively recent method (i.e., isogeometric analysis) will be shown. Improved performance over standard finite elements will be highlighted. Finally, an extension of the obtained structural results to the solution of the aortic valve FSI problem with an immersed isogeometric approach will be presented.
